Bethlehem Shores Clubhouse
The Bethlehem Shores Clubhouse forms the social and recreational heart of a high-end retirement village in Bethlehem, Tauranga. My role in this project focused predominantly on the interior architecture and pool facilities, creating a series of welcoming communal spaces with a strong sense of warmth, comfort and quality.
The interior is organised around generous shared spaces for residents to meet, relax and entertain. A restrained palette of natural timber, stone, textured finishes and dark metalwork gives the clubhouse a refined residential character, while high ceilings, extensive glazing and carefully integrated lighting bring a sense of openness and scale. Timber-lined ceilings and feature portals establish a strong architectural rhythm through the principal lounge and hospitality spaces, complemented by more intimate library and fireside areas.
A key part of the project was the indoor pool and wellness environment. Large areas of glazing bring natural light into the pool hall, while stone detailing, muted finishes and tiled spa elements extend the material language of the clubhouse into a more robust aquatic setting.
Throughout the interior, bespoke detailing-including acoustic treatments, integrated lighting, feature joinery, fireplaces and upholstered elements-helps balance the practical requirements of a retirement community with the atmosphere of a premium hospitality environment.
The result is a clubhouse designed to feel less institutional and more like an extension of home: comfortable, sophisticated and centred around community, while providing residents with high-quality spaces for recreation, wellbeing and everyday social life.
